Butterflies are beautiful and beneficial creatures that can be easily attracted to your garden. Here’s how to create a butterfly-friendly space:
Choose Nectar-Rich Flowers
Butterflies are drawn to flowers rich in nectar. Consider planting lantana, lavender, echinacea, and marigolds. These will not only attract butterflies but also add color to your garden.
Include Host Plants
Host plants, like milkweed for monarchs, provide food for caterpillars. By adding these to your garden, you’ll support the entire lifecycle of butterflies.
Create Shelter
Butterflies need shelter from the wind. A small, sheltered area of your garden with tall plants or a fence can provide a safe haven.
Provide Water
Butterflies also need water to drink. A shallow dish with water or a mud puddle will attract them to your garden.
